Great job, guys! I was really impressed that you made this! I especially liked the music, and also the way you incorporated new pictures with old. These pictures of modern, successful Chinese people contrasted with the idea you were speaking about: that the Chinese in America were low-wage laborers who were discriminated against.
I was wondering, what was the motivation for all these Chinese immigrants to come to the United States if they had such poor working conditions? What were their lives like back in China at this time?
This is really impressive Bill and Josh! Great Job! The pictures and music flowed well and I liked the specific images you chose to include. I too am curious as to what the motivation was to come to the U.S. in this time period. I’m also curious about why the Chinese were the first people to arrive, as opposed to Koreans or Vietnamese people.
Were there particular areas of the United States that were more heavily populated by these Chinese immigrants than other areas? If so, do you know if these areas still have a large Chinese-American population today? I assume they settled more on the West Coast than other areas, since they were coming across the Pacific from China.
I was reading about the California gold rush, which also began in the mid 19th Century. Was gold the motivation for many Chinese immigrants?
